Futo Japan May Be Gearing Up To Killing Dolphins Again

Sunday, September 28, 2014

And the cruelties continue. Today a pod of pilot whales wait their fate while the fisher scum of the town of Taiji have a day off. Families of pilot whales bob up and down together, exhausted and hungry after being driven into the infamous cove waiting to be slaughtered.
Also today, millions of animals lost their lives to man.
A nation is judged on how it treats its animals..

A huge THANK YOU to all of you who have participated in the cyber-protest.
Jewell's office has been flooded with phone calls and she received emails at rate that her system could not handle! Please keep up the great work!
1. Post your civil and respectful comments on the U.S. Department of the Interior's Facebook page stating your stance on the removal of Wyoming checkerboard horses.
2. Share this post on your Facebook page and with all your friends. Be sure to join the conversation with ‪#‎justice4mustangs‬ on your postings.
3. Tweet to @SecretaryJewell @Interior: Public lands 4 all Americans: Stop WY wild horse wipeout. #justice4mustangs
4. Call Jewell's office: 202-208-7351 with this sample message: "I oppose the massive wild horse roundup about to take place in Wyoming. The BLM did not provide any opportunity for the public to participate in the decision to remove these horses. Nearly 1,000 cherished wild horses will lose their freedom solely to appease ranchers who graze their livestock on our public lands. The American public opposes this roundup. Please stop the Wyoming wild horse wipeout. Our public lands belong to all Americans."
5. Send Secretary Jewell an email: exsec@ios.doi.gov

SEAWORLD Entertainment is in more hot water.
The company (a separate entity to the SeaWorld on the Gold Coast) has been hit with a shareholder lawsuit accusing it of misleading investors about the impact of last year’s Blackfish documentary on attendance and mistreating its famed killer whales.
Last month, SeaWorld shares tumbled 33 per cent in one day after the company warned that the hard-hitting film was hurting attendance at its theme parks.
The film released in July 2013 — just months after SeaWorld’s April 18 initial public offering — made the alleged mistreatment of orcas a national issue and galvanised animal rights activists.
The suit alleges that SeaWorld failed to disclose it had improperly cared for its orca population and continued to feature and breed a whale that had killed and injured numerous trainers.
As a consequence, the company “created material uncertainties and risks” that could impact attendance at its family-oriented parks.
The Blackstone Group, which bought SeaWorld less than five years ago, has reaped about $2.2 billion on its $1 billion investment since December 2009. Blackstone has a 22.5 per cent stake in the aquatic park operator.
Shares of SeaWorld, which went public at $27 a share, traded up slightly Wednesday to $20.70 at 12:30pm in New York.

JJ and Rooy. Two special things in my life, who knows if JJ is still with us! Hunters are killing bears by the hundreds and most hunters are camped outside the perimeter of the WRI grounds... At the end of this vile hunting season, most of Lynn Rogers research bears will have been wiped out under the orders (unofficially) of the corrupt DNR....
As hunters decimate the North Woods in Minnesota comes the loss of 5-year-old male Ty (son of 8-year-old Bow, great-grandson of 15-year-old RC, and great-great-grandson of 27-year-old Shadow). Ty was a playful bear who had good rapport with many other bears. Ty was popular. Many bears knew and trusted him and frequently initiated play—or responded to his initiatives. His relationships extended to sharing food. He often fed with his nose peacefully touching the noses of larger or smaller males, even when the food was highly preferred hazelnuts. Seeing his relationships develop with the other bears this past year as he became a confident adult, we would have liked to better quantify those relationships, the amount of play, and how it contrasts with the behaviors of less accepted males. Part of Ty’s acceptance by other males may have been due to his calm, trusting demeanor that also extended to humans. We saw Ty’s picture posted as one of the bears killed on September 1—opening day.

Massacre Of Bears In MN, United States

This is one of the hunters who is taking the docs research bears one by one.
This is the guy who killed Hope in 2011 with a bow and arrow. He has taken (as i know up to now) 4 bears this season. He hides around the WRI for each bear to come in and then destroys their lives.......
I won't give his name just yet for fear and retribution to all bears in this area....

Two Orcas Taken In Illegal Capture In Russia

 Article Via Russia Photo:
Two orcas taken in illegal capture in Russia: We have news today that two killer whales were captured in recent weeks in Nikolaya Gulf, in the southwestern Sea of Okhotsk, the Russian Far East. The captors are reporting that the orcas were actually taken in 2013 and spent the winter in Nikolaya Gulf. This is impossible because the Gulf is completely frozen in winter. Word is that the orcas are being transported toward Komsomolsk-on-Amur, 356 km NE of Khabarovsk. Final destination is unknown.

“These captures appear to be illegal,” says Erich Hoyt, WDC research fellow and co-director of the Far East Russia Orca Project which has been studying orcas in the Kamchatka area for 15 years. “No quotas have yet been issued for orca captures in 2014, following disagreements between the Russian Federal Fisheries and the scientific advisory board in Russia who recommended zero captures. Without a quota which is necessary to get a permit, the captures would be illegal.”

This photo shows one of the previous orca captures of a female orca who has become known as Narnia. She is now in Moscow.

Young Leopard Seal Being Euthanized

Taronga Zoo holding down a leopard seal that lost it's way home from Antarctica and ended up in Australia. Sadly, this young leopard seal has been fighting for it's life on our beach and because NSW  does not have anything in place to help nurse these beautiful sea leopards back to health they are euthanized. Very traumatic and upsetting.

Sadly The Leopard Seal Was Put Down

I argued against it with the Vet...was difficult as I was there with my baby.  In the end I had to be lead away as I was the only one protesting this action.  They said it was suffering?  Taronga Zoo told me that they could not take it due to necessary permission channels that they would have to go through in order to have a captive seal.  Really felt that it could have survived if taken in by the zoo.  More later.

Taronga Zoo Apparently On Their Way To Leopard Seal

This is not a good sign.  The leopard seal came out of the water early today when usually they are out hunting all day.  On my way.

Leopard Seal Getting Stronger

Day 6: Monitoring a leopard seal which is visiting Australia from the Antarctica. This young leopard has been very ill and weak, but hopefully getting stronger. Today he is yawning showing me his teeth (a warning for me to stand back) which is a good sign that he is getting stronger! — at Narrabeen Beach SLSC.

Leopard Seal Needs Help In Australia. Must Not Be Killed.

This cute Leopard seal needs help. Was found hanging around one of my surf beaches. Leopard seals live in Antarctica and every once in awhile a (usually a juvenile) will go on an adventure, get lost and end up on a beach in Australia. Orrca is monitoring this poor leopard seal at the moment but I have been told Taranga Zoo is coming around with a team to capture and possibly euthanise him/her. Wish this leopard seal could return to sea and find it's way back home to Antarctica. Going back to the beach tomorrow to see how I can help.

Horse Brutally Strangled

 WHAG's photo.
We have a very sad update on a horse who was brutally strangled at a local farm in Martinsburg. Catnip has passed away, according to the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office.

Catnip's caregivers tell WHAG she was euthanized under veterinarian
care early this morning. Her throat had swollen to the point where she was having an extremely hard time breathing. She could also not get up.

WHAG sends out our condolences to the owners.

Deputies are searching for the people responsible. Subjects are described as white male teenagers with dark hair, about 5'5"-5'6" and were last seen running from the property on the south side of Shepherdstown Road to the Opequon Bridge toward Diesel Drive. It's believed these individuals reside in the Diesel Drive area.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Sheriff's Office at 304-267-7000.

Gorilla Warriors ''The situation is grim, and these gorilla populations will go extinct soon without a sustained effort to intervene.''
''Primatologist Craig Stanford was interviewed about habitat threats to gorilla populations by a public radio station: "The Human Thr
eat to Great Apes":
Cell phones, like many other electronic devices, are built with capacitors, which require tantalum extracted from coltan. Eighty percent of the world’s coltan supply is mined in the Democratic Republic of Congo, in the heart of the remaining habitat of eastern lowland gorillas. With an increasing demand for electronics driving a worldwide hunger for coltan, miners in the DRC are polluting and consuming gorilla habitat while extracting the ore. Compounding the problem, miners hunt the apes for food. The situation is grim, and these gorilla populations will go extinct soon without a sustained effort to intervene.''

Stranded Whale Free!

https://au.news.yahoo.com/a/24425872/beached-humpback-whale-swimming-free-off-gold-coast/
From:Howie Cooke and Shekinah Leigh's photo.
She's free!! the whale is free and yes the SW rescue team deserve to be congratulated on pushing through and and not giving up
After yesterday's disappointing failures, caused in part by the unnecessary limitations imposed by Qld National Parks & Wildlife, today the Seaworld team really pulled out all the shots. With persistent and consistent effort, along with a growing sense of the timing needed for success, the beautiful Palmy Whale (that we are calling Hope), is free! I also wanted to acknowledge the great effort by Sea Shepherd supporters & friends last night, not allowing government rules and regulations stop the passion of the people to do what is right! They lived the truth of "bad things happen when good people do nothing". Their show of people power and the ability to stand up to bureaucracy & intimidation, at its lamest, I believe, gave Seaworld permission to go all out this morning in their attempts to rescue. So thank you everyone who helped, supported, prayed, sent love & good vibes. It was all worth it in the end <3

Latest News From ORRCA:

Palm Beach Update: unfortunately the weather hampered the rescue attempt this afternoon and the whale became stuck on another sandbank. Poor light and conditions has halted the rescue tonight.
A short time ago, a mob of misinformed people barged through barriers and entered the water with the intention of pushing the whale out.
All they succeeded on doing is moving the whale back closer to shore and face it the wrong way.
This has just made the rescue more difficult. Also they were lucky no one was seriously injured. The police are now involved.

ORRCA members will now bunker in for a second night of monitoring the whale, with hopes of an early morning rescue.

ORRCA UPDATE:

Palm Beach Update: the stranded little humpback is still holding its own. It is being protected from the sun and wind. A trench is being dug to create an escape channel for the animal. ORRCA and SeaWorld have been working tirelessly since 7pm last night to save the little whale.
Hopes are high for a refloat this afternoon around 5pm.

From: Dean Jefferys
Have just heard that a whale has stranded at Palm Beach on the Gold Coast and that National Parks will attempt to refloat it out to sea with the next high tide at 5 am. A few people from byron are going up and meeting other marine conservationists at 4-30 am to make sure they dont change there mind and instead want to study and kill it as they have done in the past. Its at the endf of 178th ave Palm Beach . Dont let SeaWorld get their hand on her. Here is a link to the whale story from byron today https://au.prime7.yahoo.com/n1/home

Kenya and China Launch Initiative To Protoect Wildlife Reserves

"Naked and Afraid" on Discovery Channel

Avian Health, welfare, conservation, and beauty
Friends,
I am a veterinarian and my patients are birds. I have, in the past, worked as a wildlife veterinarian as well. I have been an advocate for environmental, welfare and conservation efforts around the world.
I have to ask for your help.
Unfortunately I watched, by accident, a ridiculous and ignorant television program on the Discovery Channel in the USA. It is called "Naked and Afraid". Basically, 2 spoilt, young, middle class white people strip to nude and survive for 21 days "in the wild". The whole direction is that these two white folks try to kill wildlife, so they do not "starve" in those three weeks, but this one was particularly horrible. This episode is based in Namibia. These two destroyed a Hamerkop nest and brutally killed the young ones and ate them. This was entirely for vicarious entertainment.
The reason I am sending this message: do you have any sources I might contact to lodge a complaint about the treatment of these birds, which was solely for pure, greedy entertainment? Are there concerned parties in Namibia or neighboring countries that might be interested in this travesty?

Bulls Being Abused In Spain

By:Martyn Stewart
I have witnessed this first hand, in a town called fuengirola in Spain, I was working on a documentary and watched in horror as this bull was chased onto the beach and set alight!! Screams rang out into the night air mingled with cheers and laughter. If you are a meat eater and are appalled by this, you have the power including all of us to put an end to this.

I have a very heavy heart this morning, It is 03:30am and I just cannot sleep.
My good friend Dr. Lynn Rogers had to remove all the collars off the study bears in Ely, Minnesota yesterday, still waiting on the court of appeal, he took the decision of removing the collars so as the hair around the neck could grow in before Hunting season.
There are many bounties now on these bears and Lily (Pictured here with Faith) has the biggest. There are many evil things we encounter every day and most have to do with man and his ever extending cancer on this planet. People who seek power and dominium over everything in his way.
There was no need for Lynn to have lost his permit, Lynn had studied bears for over 45 years and only until recently the powers that be (DNR) took away his lifetime work.
There is nobody on this planet that knows more than Lynn About bears,
Lynn showed us that Bears don't wake up after hibernation surprised they have cubs,
Lynn squashed many myths about bears and i for one am very grateful to have worked and played with with this great man.
I will be going back to Ely this year to install new sounds into the North American Bear center. The north woods will always have a place in my heart.
"It's me bear" is now just a sound byte.

Vancouver Parks Board Will Decide Fate Of Vancouver Aquarium After Public Input

http://globalnews.ca/news/1356793/should-the-vancouver-aquarium-phase-out-whales-and-dolphins-in-captivity/
By Martyn Stewart
I encounter many sad things in life, when you love the animal kingdom you know there will be many tragedies because animals do not have the same privileges as man. I have seen some of the worst possible atrocities to the fauna and the critters of this beautiful world that we just cannot possibly appreciate.
Today, i learnt that my good friend Dr. Lynn Rogers has lost his permit to continue his important studies involving Black Bears. For 45 year, Lynn has shown the world the inside of a bears world. All the biologists on this planet come nowhere near what Lynn has achieved. He has taught me so much over the last few years, things i would never have dreamed of. I had the privilege to work with the bears in tv programs and i got to know his research bears intimately. The powers that be wanted this to stop, mainly the DNR and its hunting community. Incredible pressure was placed on Lynn and against all the odds, he survived until yesterday.
Idiots with guns rejoice the news. Idiots who believe these bears are of great danger to us even though they know the science involved. The DNR created paranoia and the judge gave into them.... This year, all the bears in Lynn's study area will be shot. Lily, Braveheart, Faith, Aster, Juliette and so on. I witnessed Hope, June and many others die at the end of bows and arrows and guns.........
The sound of Lynn calling "Its me bear" will die with them.
There are things that totally disgust me in life and the main thing is my own species.
There are times i want to just crawl under a rock.
Most of us will just carry on in life pretending all is wonderful, their heads are buried in the sand. Man has scarred the earth with his vile ways. In a little corner of Minnesotta, a part my heart will always be there.
Thank you for educating me Lynn and Sue.
